As the City of Raleigh finalizes the purchase of the Dorothea Dix property and gets one step closer to having a large park downtown, I can’t help but start dreaming about what that park could be.
Should we have soccer and ultimate frisbee fields? Remote-controlled airplane races? A giant ferris wheel?
My favorite idea for the park would be to build a pond with an island stage at the bottom of the Dix hill that faces downtown. Then, during concerts or theater performances, the Raleigh skyline would be highlighted in the background and reflected in the lake surrounding the stage.
That's just one of my dreams; so what about yours? What's your big idea for the Dorothea Dix Park land?
If you were a landscape architect or park designer, how would you make your mark on Raleigh? Let your imagination go wild - think about big, bold, even crazy ideas and let’s see what we can come up with.
Take a look at the map below for inspiration and then give me your ideas. I’ll ensure all of your ideas are seen by the future planning efforts and take some of the best ones and share them on social media.
